Elfin Lakes
How to get there:
Take Highway 99 to Squamish. As you cross the Maquam River, look for the B.C. Parks sign for Diamond Head. Turn right on Mamquam Road and follow the road for 10 km. At this point turn left. The parking lot is about half kilometer down the road.
The initially trail is not all that exciting. Along this stretch you will get the odd view of the Tantalus Range. Further along you will come upon the Heather Campground, which is situated in a sub-alpine meadow and an ideal place to take a break. Just passed the campground is a junction, where you turn left. As you continue your hike, you get to Paul Ridge from which you will have a wonderful view. Elfin Lakes lie 150 m below the ridge. To the east of the Ridge there is a Ranger Station. From there it is an one kilometer hike to the Elfin Lakes campground. If you should decide to camp, there are several places you might want to explore. Mamquam Lake with its icefield is up the valley. Opal Cone is 6 km away and will let you experience a walk on the crater rim.
If you in the mood for further hiking, Columnar Peak and Little Diamond Head offer a good climb.
